The Thames Strategy Partnership is a collaboration between three passionate organisations working along the Thames that have been responsible for delivering Thames Strategies for more than 30 years. It is joined in its vision by London Borough of Richmond upon Thames who are hosting the Partnership, and the Thames Regional Flood and Coastal Committee who are the primary funder of the delivery of Joint Thames Strategies from Surrey to the Sea.
The Thames Strategy Partnership is committed to delivering a legacy that will ensure up to date, relevant strategies that are accessible and usable with clear guidance that serves as a mechanism for resilience across the river Thames.
Empower: By updating the Thames Strategies, the partnership empowers local stakeholders to contribute to the future of the river and estuary. It encourages multi benefit thinking at scale while retaining the unique character of different Thames reaches.
Engage: The partnership fosters collaboration and participation between local authorities, landowners, agencies, and communities to address the changing environment of the Thames. The Joint Thames Strategy will deliver a roadmap to ensure a resilient Thames in response to a changing climate and increasing flood risk.
Enhance: The strategies seek to enhance the Thames by integrating flood defence upgrades with riverside improvements that will have multiple benefits. It aims to create green, accessible, vibrant public spaces, attracting investment, while ensuring protection from increasing flood risk.
How the Joint Thames Strategy works
Five individual Thames Strategies serve the needs of defined sections of the Thames based on their unique character. Common themes and national policies are managed and supported collectively through the Joint Thames Strategy. Working collaboratively allows us to share knowledge, best practice and resource, empowering the Thames as a whole, while each Thames Strategy will guide its communities towards meaningful benefits, locally.
The Joint Thames Strategy is comprehensive guidance for Riverside Strategy development that will lead to climate resilience and offer access to wider benefits that set the scene for economic growth in a changing environment.

- Improving flood risk management along the Thames - Embedding the Thames Estuary 2100 plan. Mapping defences and vulnerabilities across the entire stretch of the Thames to better understand needs locally while we work towards effective flood resilience.
